European standard
What is standard EN 1466:2023?
EN 1466:2023 is a European safety standard that applies to carrycots and carry bags. The standard sets clear requirements for how these products must be designed to ensure safe use. It covers, among other things:
- Load capacity and strength: The product must withstand a weight of up to 9 kg (the child’s weight) without losing shape or stability.
- Stability: The carrycot must not tip over easily, either when placed on a surface or when the child moves inside.
- Ventilation: There are requirements ensuring that the child has good access to air supply, reducing the risk of suffocation or overheating.
- Materials and chemicals: All textiles and materials must be safe and free from harmful substances.
- Carrying straps and handles: These are tested for strength and safety, so the carrycot can be carried without the risk of failure.
A carrycot that has been tested and approved according to EN 1466:2023 has therefore undergone strict controls to ensure safety both when it is used for carrying and when the child rests in it.
It is important to note that although the standard sets requirements for safe sleep during short rest periods, it does not cover overnight sleep. For overnight stays and longer sleep periods, a crib, cot, or another approved firm sleeping place is recommended in accordance with health authority guidelines.
